Bilbo's mum would like to know what he's wearing these days. Under his yellow vest he is the proud wearer of a lovely blue Australian BookCrossing Convention shirt with the ABC Ballycumber logo on the front & 'Brisbane 2005'. It's a one-of-a-kind courtesy of whitequeen.
I'll try to get a close-up photo for rarsberry although my camera is not the best. In the meantime here is the ABC Bally.

Looks like rarsberry might have to dry Bilbo out when he finally gets home.
Lol, he will cost more to send if he keeps that up.
I certainly didn't teach him that trick, as I don't drink wine.
Wonder who it was..........
He does seem to like red though, maybe its healthy for him!!
What a Kiwi...... :o)

Bilbo & I went for a lunchtime walk up to the Go-Go Cafe OBCZ in Darlinghurst. It was looking sadly diminished so we dropped off half a dozen books:

We got up early on Saturday and Bilbo, Sherry & I went for a walk in the frosty morning light. We headed up to the Hill, Rooty Hill, Shagger's Ridge. Except for the frosts, the weather has been so warm that the wattles are already in bloom. Here's Bilbo on a fence post in some of our suburban wildnerness shot with gold.
Bilbo & Sherry flaked out, absolutely exhausted after the party & a big couple of weeks.
BTW, I think it's just as well Bilbo is of to visit Sorgatani in Victoria because I'm pretty sure Jeannie really did want to eat him. I'm not including that photo. Bad Jeannie!
Have a great trip, Bilbo, from Sherry, Charlie, Jeannie & Kylie.

Bilbo made his early morning flight to Victoria. He's off to visit Sorgatani in Sale. Happy travels, little kiwi.
Me again.
Thanks to catsalive for taking care of Bilbo.
Can I please ask a favour of someone, before he goes too far.
I asked in journal #165 and I'll ask again.
"I was reading back in cackleberry's entries, when Bilbo first arrived with cackles he mentioned "his BookCrossing Passport". I didn't even think to send him with a small passport book.
That would be a great idea, he could have a small book, and people could draw a stamp or something or where he has been.
If anyone wants to do this for him, that would be great."
Please can someone do this, before he has travlled too far, and others can continue to add to it.
Thank you. :o)

Bilbo at last is moving on.
He's seen many people in Sale, been to a few parties, got to see Tripod in concert... Even got to speak pirate with CaptainAverage and the mushies.
I felt guilty for detaining him so long, but he was pretty good-natured about it all.
Safe travels, little bird. May your shadow never grow thin (or wait a minute, I got the wrong quote) :P

Journal Entry 161 by HINERANGI from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Thursday, October 6, 2005
Bilbo arrived safe and sound in Adelaide last Thursday, just in time to head North to Darwin for three weeks. He's currently aclimatising himself to the heat by lying around on the balcony at my Daughter's apartment at Bayview Marina, while keeping a weather eye out for crocodiles in the mangroves. More as it happens.....

Well, Bilbo's back in Adelaide, after a 'series of unfortunate events' (interspersed with others not quite so bad). He's been to Charles Darwin University, where he discussed Native Title and Curiously Strong Coffee with a trio of mature age law students, he's attended Parliament, looked in on the Law Courts - not a hope of attending the celebrity trial on at the moment, but that's not a bad thing, in my opinion - had morning tea in the Parliament House cafe, and rubbed shoulders with some NT Pollies (MUCH worse than drinking Guiness in a London Tavern, believe me - could rot a young bird's innocence right away, that sort of company).
In between all this riotous behaviour, we all went to the Parap Market, where Bilbo was introduced to fresh mango smoothies and char-grilled skewered prawns. Bilbo thinks he would have prefered Witchetty Grubs, but they were not available that week. Alas, we couldn't afford to buy him the pearl as a souvenir.....
We never made it to the crocodile farm or the Museum, because I was attacked without warning by some horrible tropical 'flu bug, which laid me flat for 6 days, and wiped out everyone else as well. Bilbo, however, has enjoyed the rest - says he's only scared of Bird Flu, and he needed some R with his R anyway!
He's spent the last 10 days sacked out on the balcony overlooking Bayview Marina, soaking up the heat and looking out for the biggish Salt-water Crocodile which rumour hath it is cruising around amongst the yachts. He didn't spot it, but did see 2 Cormorants and a pair of Egrets fishing in the lagoon, and took a photo of the most ENORMOUS rock crab when my Granddaughter took him for a walk. (Photo posted only if I can come to amicable peace terms with my computer - we can but hope!)
Darwin's just beginning the Build-up to the Wet, so there have been lovely grumbly thunderstorms and enough rain to make everything begin to grow madly. I'm not a big fan of the tropics, but the blossoming trees are a sight to behold - glorious red Poinsianas are the only ones I can name, but there are great fountains of golden flowers (at least 3 types) everywhere, purple candles as long as my arm held at the branch tips of beautiful round trees with elephant-ear leaves, and flowering shrubs and vines wherever they can get a foothold. The rather drab Dry season with its burn-offs and parched grass began to disappear with the first rainstorm. All a bit of a shock to our Dunedin-bred Kiwi, but he seemed to like it.
We arrived back in Adelaide in pouring rain and a distinct drop in temperature. I'm still sick - seeing a Dr. this afternoon - so hopefully I'll be a slightly better host soon!
More soon.....

AH - the best laid plans o' mice and men gang aft agley, as the poet possibly didn't say!
Bilbo's visit to Adelaide has been something of a washout, in more ways than one!
The DDL (Dreadful Darwin Lurgy) has me in its clutches still, and although I am now up and toting a small brown kiwi about,it takes a good deal of energy just to do the grocery shopping, let alone take Bilbo sightseeing.
However: we did get about a bit. Took him with me to the Barr Smith library at the University of Adelaide where I work in the Special Collections section one day a week. Bilbo made quite a hit (after initial puzzlement) and was permitted to inspect a few of the rarer manuscripts, but alas! - he's not the bibliofile we'd all expected! He was more interested in the Tim Tams (choccy biscuits) and coffee!
He's been to the museum, and seen the marvellous mineral collection (lot of old rocks with glittery bits) the Aboriginal collection (coo - look at that! and that! what's that? -think he liked it). The Art Gallery was a bit much for me in my doddery state, so Bilbo has taken it as read: Sth Australia has a fine collection of art!
Went to visit a friend, who introduced him to beer in a very tall glass (there are photos, but the computer is still not talking to me about that, so sorry, can't post them here - I'll stick some in his journal) and last Tuesday he was introduced to some Adelaide Bookcrossers at the monthly Meetup.
Saturday was the annual Santa parade, so bilbo was there - alas! not with me - he was ferried around by a sympathetic friend and her children. However, he seems to have had a great time cheering the floats, chasing clowns, and screaming himself hoarse at Santa. It was a lovely day, too. Made a change - Adelaide has been experiencing very unseasonable floods - torrential downpours, thunderstorms, overflowing streams and impassable roads. All very exciting, except that I wouldn't let the daft little bird out in the wet!
Now it's time for him to move on, so I'll have to say good-bye. He's been great fun, and the best ice-breaker I've ever met, but it's time for him to fly off on the next leg of his epic journey - to Sujie, in Kota Kinabalu.
Bye, Bilbo - I'll miss you.....

Bilbo is on his way to join Sujie in Sabah - hope he doesn't feel the heat too much! He's had a very quiet time in Adelaide, so now he's all set for a new adventure.
Bye, little traveller - go safely.

Bilbo arrived yesterday in Kota Kinabalu. We are now out of the flat we have lived in for the past year and in a hotel for a week before leaving for Oz via Vietnam and Cambodia. Bilbo will be accompanying us. He has not quite finished a large glass of katchai ping (iced fresh lime juice) and played dangerously close to the pool last night. Luckily on stand-by was my nephew Ben, in Sabah on his medical elective at Sandakan Hospice, with his wife Merryn. Hinerangi, don't worry, he thinks KK is just like Darwin and very pleasant as it's the rainy season.

We are in Hanoi now. Lovely and cool and Bilbo has his vest on in the evenings, when he takes a gin and tonic with us on our cast iron balcony of tiny Camellia hotel, one room atop another, ten feet wide. Today we'll explore the old quarter and French quarter. All those yummy baguettes after the Malaysian version of Western bread that's like sweet, soft cardboard. Heaven! It will be interesting to see how he fares with noodles. I have been taking pictures on my digital camera but have no programme to reduce the pictures enough til I get home. Will add them later.
Journal Entry 168 by Sujie from Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales Australia on Monday, January 16, 2006
Five days in Hoi An, halfway down the coast of Vietnam, and Bilbo is in his element, imbibing freely the local beer at 3000d (25 to 30c) a glass and occasionally an excellent local Dalat wine. Very dry and lovely. He accompanied me to have a silk ao dais (trad. Viet. dress and p.j.s) made up and helped our friend Phung keep the price down to $45. Hoi An is an historical town - a flourishing international port in the 15 and 1600's and seat of the Cham dynasty (1st to 13th centuries - Hindus from Java) so wonderful ruins and temples of ancient red brick and stone abound. Bilbo remarked on the huge numbers of Aussies here. We could be in Noosa on the waterfront. The Vietnamese think we are the friendliest tourists and I suppose that goes for Kiwis, too, who they can't tell apart!

Leaving Hanoi today for Cambodia - Siem Reap to be exact... and the tombs and temples of Ankor Wat and Ankor Thom. Bilbo is fed up with lurking at the hotel reading The Death of Ivan Ilyich and other classics (very cheap in Hanoi exchanges). Next email from The Shadow of Ankor Wat - our guesthouse on the riverbank there.
Journal Entry 170 by Sujie from Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales Australia on Friday, January 27, 2006
Back in KL too quickly. Bilbo got lost in the ancient cities and temples of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. Just too awe-inspiring to even begin to talk about, I think he said one evening. He particularly enjoyed the tuk tuk (motorcycle driven)rides in the cool of the early morning) and his favourite temple (mine too as it happens) was Ta Phrom, slowly being overgrown by the forest and jungle. Great roots eating up the cloisters and marvellous freizes of apsaras (dancing girls). The only problem to mar our wonderful holiday was the plumbing at our old colonial French hotel...but it wouldn't be Asia without that.

Great to be back in Oz, in Queanbeyan to be exact. Posting out of Cambodia was problematic so Bilbo will be leaving by airmail from country NSW. He has been a great traveller especially as he never raised a sweat in Asia and was a convivial drinking companion. I think wandering through the grounds of Ankor Wat and Ankor Thom was a high point for him.

Bilbo is off today to GateGypsy in British Columbia - she's home from Japan now. Bon Voyage little critter!
(PS Sorry no pictures yet - I'm home in Oz but forced to use the library's computer as my daughter Cait's has problems. The library won't let me muck around with photos.)

Bilbo arrived on Monday! He's already had himself some fun here, though I am sorry I moved back to Canada before he could join me in Japan. Waiting on Luz-de-Luna's addy to pass him along!

Bilbo had an Americano coffee at the Starbucks. He seemed to enjoy it!
Bilbo met some of his fans in Athens, and had a lovely time there too.
Here he is with axenbax, travellinglight, aris1 and apapsa!

Still masquerading... mmjrules did a fantastic job on all of the following dressing-up scenes.
Check out Bilbo having a bath! :-)
(I had a really good laugh over this one; pay attention to the 'bathroom' details! LOL)

It's been marvellous to have BilboDarling stay with me. I know I've kept him for more than I should, but he's totally irresistible!
Bilbo will be on his way to France very soon. We've had a great time together and I'll definitely miss him!
Thank you for letting me participate in this, rars! (((((((((((hugs)))))))))))
