This book travelled to Gran Canaria with me. I enjoyed the writing skills of Chris and am looking forward to hunting out a copy of the second book in this series.

It's arrived, thank you!
A dystopian future in which many humans have been poisoned and animal life distorted. A community of young people lives on what used to be Holy Island, trained by their sadistic leaders to think only of what's best for the many, not to have emotions or friends. Gaia wants to escape to a different life, and when Aran tells her of a plan to cross to the mainland this is her chance. This is an excellent plot, but unfortunately I didn't get on too well with Ord's writing style. I also didn't like the ending, but with a story arc leading in that direction it could be the only way to end the book.

Posted to kinedi, next in the ray.
Arrived today in Co. Durham so will aim to read soonest and get moving again before I go on holiday too.
Have to admit found it a bit of a struggle and the giant rats at the start certainly didn't help. It reminded me a lot of " The Hunger Games" in its dystopian setting and I wanted things to go well for Gaia and Aran but of course a happy ending wouldn't have been right for this kind of novel. I liked the setting in Northumberland and am looking forward to meeting the author at the Uncon in September to find out his own thoughts about the book too.
Arrived safely today. will read and pass on asap.
